Lancome at The Baftas - Get Top Celebrity Make-Up Artist Tips!

Celebrating 10 years as the Official Beauty Partner to the BAFTAs, Lancôme raised the beauty stakes this year by adorning the faces of award-winning actors, actresses and citation readers alike with their luxury cosmetics products. From past BAFTA winner Kate Winslet, to this year’s winners Carey Mulligan and Kristen Stewart and rising stars Anna Kendrick, Bonnie Wright, Jaime Winstone to established stars such as Anne Marie Duff, Claire Danes, Vera Farmiga to name a few, there was no shortage of glamour and high voltage beauty on the red-carpet.
At this year’s ceremony, most women still wanted to look like themselves, if not a more polished version. This included some of the younger attendees although Brit star, Jaime Winstone broke the mould, embracing a more directional old ‘Hollywood’ Marilyn Monroe style.
A key trend given by the Lancôme-BAFTA make up team was an updated red-carpet version of the smoky eye coupled with softly bronzed, sculpted cheeks. A touch of blush on the apples of cheeks left all the girls with a rosy, feminine glow on a crisp winter’s night.

Claire Danes

Celebrated make-up artist Ashley Ward created Claire Danes’ BAFTA appearance using Lancôme products.
“When it’s an event, I always ask the publicist what dress the actress will be wearing so I have an idea. Claire wore a Burberry silver dress with lots of pleats and draping.”
Onto her beautiful, elegantly pale skin, I applied Hydra Zen Neurocalm™ Soothing Anti Stress Moisturising Fluid Cream (£35.50) then for the base, the paleness of Photogenic Lumessence in Beige Albâtre (£27.50) was perfect for Claire’s skin tone. Blush Subtil Highlighter in Peach (£25) was applied on the apple of the cheeks and the warm shade was ideal to work as both a blusher and a highlighter.
Ombre Absolue Palette in Intemporel Smoky, G10 (£33) was used in the darkest silver shade in the socket area to enhance Claire’s blue eyes, blending it all the way up to the brow bone. Then on the inside of the eyes, Ashley used the lighter silver to create sparkle but also so that in flash photography, eyes look opened and not sunken. The overall make-up look was very light and ethereal.
Fortunately for Claire, she has very long eye lashes. To make them look even longer, Ashley applied the Lancôme Cils Booster XL (£18) to give a fairy like aspect to her beauty with long sweeping lashes. Over the top she then applied Hypnôse mascara in Noir (£19.50).
For the lips, Ashley prepped them using L’Absolu Rouge Le Base (£17.50) before applying a really deep red. L’Absolu Rouge in 132 is a true red (not too blue so it kept Claire’s skin looking warm) with a satin matt finish. “I wanted her to look modern but ethereal; with soft sparkly eyes and a red pout like an empowered starlet.” To set the look, Ashley then finished off with Poudre Majeur Excellence in Translucent (£26).

Anne Marie Duff

Anne Marie Duff’s personal hair and make-up artist, Jennie Roberts worked on creating a very “pure and simple look” to complement Anne Marie’s pillar box red, Alberta Ferretti chiffon, full length gown.
Teint Idole Ultra Foundation in 01 (£26.50) was applied as a base over the face with Flash Retouche Perfect Brush-on Concealer in 01 (£23.50) to conceal any blemishes and dark circles, targeting the inner corner of the eyes specifically.
On the eyes, Jennie used the white of Ombre Absolue Duo in My Dear Montmartre, G01 (£22.50) over the lid, shaded with the Blush Subtil Highlighting Beige, 004 (£25). A delicate line of Artliner in Noir (£19) was applied along the rim of the top lid to really play on Anne Marie’s large eyes finished off with lashings of Hypnôse Mascara in Noir Hypnotic (£20).
Cheeks were blushed over with Blush Subtil Shimmer in Peach Fever, 20 (£24). Lips were dressed with Colour Fever Lipstick in Red on Fire, 108 (£17) and the overall make-up look was set using Ageless Minerals Powder in Translucent (exclusive to Selfridges, £32). “She looks absolutely radiant and the happiest we’ve ever seen her now that she and James McAvoy are expecting their first child,” comments Jennie.
