Glitter featured heavily throughout many shows & looks like it'll be here to stay, so not just a festive season buy, keep your glitter pots for spring/summer 2011!!
The look here was created for Giles by Miranda Joyce, who described the look as "pure Seventies decadence - more so than we have seen at any other show". This couture style used a two tone glitter effect right into the brow, matched with red 'statement' lips, another style that has featured heavily - no more 'Eyes Or Lips', now you can both!
Many styles in London & New York for SS11 have used very bold eye make-up matched with vibrant lips, a definite sign of a new style change to come around for next season.

Celebs With No Make-Up!

5pm.co.uk, the country’s top restaurant reservation and review site has been given an exciting makeover with the launch of its brand new Health & Beauty section.

For almost ten years, 5pm.co.uk has enabled it’s users to dine out for less in restaurants across the country. Now the site will show consumers that less is most definitely more in the world of health and beauty by offering exclusive offers, discounts and deals on treatments at top salons and spas.

Whether you are a beauty buff, looking for some holiday deals, planning for a special event or a student on a budget, you will find the very best daily deals on manicures, pedicures, haircuts, tanning, massages, waxing and everything in between on 5pm.co.uk.

The offers will initially be in Glasgow only but will be rolled out across the country in the coming months. Some of the top brands and salons that have already signed up are: Isis Spa, Russell Cowie Hairdressing, Fake Bake Hair & Beauty Boutique, James Dun's House, 29 Spa, Mar Hall, 15 Royal Terrace, Beti Reilly hair and many more....

The site will feature profile pages for salons and spas with descriptions of facilities and photographs meaning people can feel more relaxed about trying somewhere new because they’ve been able to have a peek inside. Says Gillian O’Hara, Health & Beauty Manager, 5pm.co.uk said: “Everyone likes to look good and whether you’re going for that long needed trim or treating yourself or a loved one to a spa day, you no longer need to break the bank. We have partnered with some fantastic establishments to offer an incredible range of deals and we will be adding to them over the coming weeks.”

The innovative new section is yet another development in the already booming business of 5pm.co.uk headed up by Chairman Charles Shaw: “5pm.co.uk has always been a simple business model that works extremely well for both restaurateurs and consumers. Restaurants fill tables that would otherwise be empty and consumers can eat in great restaurants every day of the week for less money.”
“Our research into the Health & Beauty industry has told us that this model can be transferred easily to work for salons and spas. The current economic climate has been tough for this industry, but we know that our users will welcome the opportunity to pamper themselves and still come home with money in their pockets.”

The Beautyblender Make-Up Sponge

I just love this latest cult beauty product 'Beautyblender', it really is as they say themselves the 'ultimate make up sponge applicator'! It has been created by make up artist Rea Ann Silva who has worked as a top make-up artist in Hollywood for many years.
She created Beautyblender to give a professional finish with a flawless complexion, as she says herself that the 'key to a perfect face is simple - a perfect blend'. So no more smearing foundation over your face with your fingers or using triangular sponges, the Beautyblender blends everything flawlessly in an instant with it's suede texture & unique elliptical shape curves that fits the contours of your face. It even comes with it's own cleanser to make sure you can keep it dazzling clean in between uses.
This is the perfect product all round for personal & professional use & as a make-up artist myself I would definitely recommend it to all fellow artists after seeing it in use!

Beautyblender is currently in 'Patent-Pending' status & what always upsets me is when an individual comes up with an excellent & groundbreaking product idea it really only is a matter of time before the larger companies cash in & try to pass off a version of it for themselves at a cheaper price. I won't mention any names here after receiving a press release today on a clear copy of the Beautyblender but I'll only say this - the original is always best!

St.Tropez at Fashion Week SS11

St.Tropez are gearing up to be at the forefront of the upcoming Fashion Weeks again for many of the SS11 shows, as they create many beautiful golden skin tones, essential for giving that polished beautiful effect. In advance of the shows, St.Tropez have released the following statement on their involvement:

“London Fashion Week continues to be an incredible platform for us to launch new products and showcase our innovative skin finishes, alongside designers previewing their collections - which are some of the most innovative in the world. We are most proud of the relationships that we have sewn and the creative processes of which we are now a firm fixture – allowing us to create products from sketches to skin,” explains St.Tropez CEO, Michelle Feeney.

The tan continues to be a big trend, with new dark Wash Off products being created for catwalk muses. This time around, the focus will be steered from the neck downwards as glowing skin becomes the centre point. Bare glossy legs, highlighted décolletages, shimmery shoulders and defined arms will be making appearances at the season’s most high profile shows including Zac Posen, Louise Goldin, Marios Schwab, Erdem, House of Holland and Roksanda Ilinic.

Louise Goldin fans will view a cutting edge film – shot by Nick Knight and featuring a top model - yet to be named. Again this will showcase new ‘futuristic’ tanning techniques from St.Tropez’s Self Tan Collection, as well as bespoke new Wash Off products, all inspired by the designer’s initial sketches, and inspirations.

Nichola Joss, St.Tropez’s skin finishing expert, will be collaborating with lead makeup artists Kabuki, Val Garland, Lucia Pica, Petros Petrohilos and Andrew Gallimore to create a variety of ‘light contouring’ effects. St.Tropez will also be backstage at Paris Fashion Week via its union with NYC fashion royalty, Zac Posen.

From catwalk to red carpet, a bespoke St.Tropez skin finish designed to showcase beautiful skin and the latest Zac Posen or Marchesa gown is becoming increasingly popular with starlets ranging from Emily Blunt, Kelly Osbourne, Megan Fox, Katy Perry, Angela Kinsey, Giuliana Rancic to Carrie Ann Inaba.

Think you’ve seen it all before? This season will feature a variety of new trends, tanning techniques, skin finishes and products – designed for the catwalk, yet at accessible prices for St.Tropez’s fashion followers... Stay tuned.”

No7 Research - Dermatologists warn of widespread UVA ignorance as new research highlights dramatic impact of everyday exposure

- Proof that year round daily UVA exposure can significantly accelerate skin ageing even indoors -
- No7 launches the 1st daily moisturisers with unbeatable 5-star rated UVA protection in response to independent research –

Leading dermatologists and photobiologists today warn that widespread lack of understanding of the impact of daily UV exposure particularly UVA on skin ageing means our skin could photo-age more than twice as quickly as it needs to.

This is just one finding from a number of independent research studies, conducted in collaboration with No7, which reveal the ageing acceleration of skin due to the effects of daily UVA exposure in a way never fully realised before. The brand which revolutionised the beauty industry in 2009, with the first published independent double-blind placebo controlled clinical trial of a beauty product, will now revolutionise protection against photo ageing in 2010.

Key research findings1 include:
· Everyday cumulative UVA exposure ages skin even through glass according to the first asymmetry study of its kind, conducted by Professor Philippe Humbert at the University College Hospital, Besancon2. The study measured, for the first time, the impact of cumulative UVA exposure on clinical skin measures such as hydration, barrier function and firmness, as well as visible signs of ageing. Participants showed significantly more clinical signs of facial ageing on one side of their face due to driving or working close to windows over many years.

- Beware of the car window.3 A volunteer was selected from the study who had driven routinely for 33 years. The side of her face closest to the car window was found to look more than 7 years older than the opposite side, as well as demonstrating more signs of ageing through clinical measurements.
- A complementary study, performed by Boots, revealed that even a few hours sitting in a car in April resulted in skin damage linked to ageing. An average increase of 300% in free radical damage linked to UVA was measured on the window side of the face.
- We should be protecting our skin from UVA all year round. Scientific modelling of UVA exposure by Professor Brian Diffey, Emeritus Professor of Photobiology, Dermatological Sciences, University of Newcastle indicates that about two-thirds of people’s annual UVA exposure in the UK occurs during the summer months with about one-third received from September to May.
- Even Autumn exposure has an impact. Research in collaboration with Professor Trevor McMillan and Dr Sarah Allinson at the School of Health and Medicine4, Lancaster University has proved that low dose UVA equivalent to a UK Autumn day causes up to a 50 fold increase in the expression of certain genes involved in photo-ageing.
- The findings are so conclusive the brand will this week launch the first 5-star daily moisturiser with SPF 15 to reduce UV exposure by up to 90%. Analysis suggests that daily use of a high UVA protection in a product could more than halve the rate that skin visibly ages.

Professor John Hawk, an Emeritus Professor of Dermatological Photobiology and UVA expert, very much supports the research findings: “This collection of studies definitely strengthens our understanding of the issue of UVA photoageing. We believe that up to 90% of the visible signs of ageing are due to the sun’s ultraviolet radiation and more than 95% of these are known to be UVA rays.”

“What’s needed is a step-change in awareness of the damaging effects of UVA all year round, not just during summer holiday season. If women were to do one further thing to help prevent the signs of facial ageing then I’d recommend the daily use of products with both SPF15 and 5-star UVA protection.”

According to a No7 survey of UK women*, 83% did not realise that they should be protecting their skin from the UVA rays outside their annual holiday in order to prevent photoageing. Boots is confident the research will raise further awareness of the damaging effects of UVA, as according to the study, many do not even know the difference between UVA and UVB. Whilst 65% of women use, and actively seek out, moisturisers with SPF (predominately a measure of UVB protection), just 14% look for day creams with UVA protection.

There are currently no 5-star UVA rated daily moisturisers on the market in the UK, a fact that the Boots Product Development Team will change significantly over the next year. In order to develop skincare products that would tackle the issues raised by the research, No7 will this week launch No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Day Cream** so consumers will be able to choose a daily product with the best in protection, alongside proven repair benefits.

No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Day Cream is the first SPF 15 day cream which delivers 5-star UVA rated protection combined with the same anti-ageing ingredients from No7’s famous clinically proven No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Beauty Serum.

Set to become another essential beauty buy, the product protects against up to 90% of the UVA and UVB rays that cause skin ageing, with proven No7 anti-ageing actives5. No7 analysis suggests that visible signs of ageing can be delayed by more than 50% by combining daily SPF 15 with 5-star UVA rated protection and the product is also proven to improve the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles in 4 weeks.

Dr Mike Bell, Boots Skincare Scientific Advisor comments: “The industry must broaden its focus beyond SPF. We must educate consumers on the need to protect their skin on a daily basis in the battle against UVA damage. We consider the results of these studies as so significant that the gold standard 5-star rating will be rolled out in all our No7 anti-ageing day creams by summer 2011. It is a major move with a complementary approach to prevention and repair. Up until this point SPF has been the only clear measure of prevention from the harmful effect of the sun in daily face creams. The move to include 5-star UVA protection in No7 Protect & Perfect Intense Day Cream is the next stage of No7’s pioneering campaign to help protect the nation’s skin from the undesired effects of the sun and ageing.”

Top Make-Up Tricks - Smokey Eyes

The following tips will help you achieve a smouldering smokey eye effect without a professional at hand, perfect for a night out on the town this weekend!

Firstly as with anything start with a good base, take a light neutral colour and with a large brush sweep across the lid. Then with a smaller defined brush take a dark colour of your choice which works best as a shimmer or frost finish & apply to your lower lid then with your larger brush blend outwards to soften (don't worry if it looks s little messy at this stage!).

Then take the dark colour again & shade in the outer corners of your eye in a shape such as a 'V' on it's side with the point facing outwards, this will add depth & make your eyes look darker & wider, make sure you blend well & take a cotton bud to soften this out which will also define as well.

Line the top lash with a matte dark shadow, use a small slanted brush for this, it will create a softer smokier finish & take it from the outer corner to the inner, for the bottom lash again use the shadow with the same brush & take it three quarters of the way across from the outer edge & with a cotton bud soften this out & even add a little more shadow to create a more dramatic look (use the dark colour used on the lids for an extra shimmer).

One thing to bare in mind is to try & apply more depth to the outer corners so the finshed result is not too heavy, cotton buds are your best friend while creating this look as they are perfect for blending in this area!

Take a highlighter & blend up to the brow bone, this is great for bringing everything together, also take a little of the highlighter into the inner corners to open the eye & tidy any edges by softening them out with the cotton bud.

Another tip is do your eye make-up first before the foundation, using dark colours can be messy!!
